Potters Mills Gap

The Potters Mills Gap project was initiated by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to improve safety, reduce congestion, and alleviate access concerns along the section of Route 322 from the Centre / Mifflin County line to west of the Route 322 / 144 intersection at Potters Mills. The project was divided into three sections, and Interstate Acquisition Services, a division of Century Engineering, Inc., provided right-of-way acquisition services for the B06 section of the project.

Timelines

The project began with a gap plan to acquire the structures requiring relocation of occupants. These relocations included seven residential owners, three residential tenants, two business owners, one business tenant, and two outdoor advertising devices. Acquisitions began in January 2016 and were cleared by December 2018.

The final plan consisted of the acquisition of 21 parcels and one outdoor advertising device. Acquisitions began in January 2017 and were cleared by December 2018.

Expectations for the Future

The Potters Mills Gap Project will ultimately add 4,873 feet of additional retaining walls, one three-span structure carrying Route 322 traffic, one two-span structure carrying traffic over Route 322, and two single-span structures to the PennDOT transportation facility. The second roundabout in District 2-0 will be constructed at the western interchange at the end of the westbound off ramp and SR 2015. Construction is expected to be completed by 2021.
