Century-Kleinfelder’s Scott Rathfon, Bill Conway, and Brian Kisner had an incredible experience at the recent Delaware Department of Transportation DBE Networking Event, hosted at the iconic Dover Speedway. The event served as a fantastic platform to foster connections between key individuals from DelDOT, prominent engineering companies, and prime contractors with prospective DBE business partners, all within a relaxed and enjoyable setting. Set at the famous "Monster Mile," Dover Speedway, known for its thrilling races, offered participants a unique opportunity to ride in a pace car, hurtling around the track at exhilarating speeds of up to 90 mph.
The networking event not only facilitated meaningful business connections, but also provided an adrenaline-pumping adventure for attendees, creating unforgettable memories and connections. Century is proud to be a sponsor of DelDOT’s DBE Networking Events series.

Congratulations to eleven Century-Kleinfelder staff who were recognized for going above and beyond in the name of damage prevention. The Delmarva Miss Utility Board recognized utility locators who went above and beyond in 2022. To be recognized, the locator must have zero safety violations, zero at-fault damages, status over 1,500 tickets, and must have a primary role as utility locator for the entire calendar year. Century-Kleinfelder recently attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the I-95 and SR 896 Interchange project in Newark, Delaware. The interchange has seen more than 700 accidents over a three-year period (2019-2021). Improvements were designed to address safety and congestion for all motorists, including the many people who use these roads because of their close proximity to the University of Delaware. Construction is set to begin on May 8, and the project is expected to be completed by the fall of 2025.
In attendance at the groundbreaking ceremony were Andy Waslyn, Bill Conway, Kate Ford, Steve Penoza, Kyle Castillo, Paul Leary, and Pat Horsky from the Century-Kleinfelder team, along with Delaware Governor John Carney, U.S. Senator Tom Carper, U.S. Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester, DelDOT Secretary Nicole Majeski, and representatives from the Delaware Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, and project contractor Wagman.

Laura Haxton and Jill Frey, from the Kleinfelder-Century Dover, Delaware office, participated in the American Heart Association STEM Goes Red Event held at University of Delaware, which encourages young women to pursue careers in STEM.
Laura and Jill participated in speed mentoring and presented about solving transportation solutions to middle and high school students from across the state of Delaware.

Kleinfelder`s Andy Morecraft (Tampa, FL), Ricky Lewis (Dover, DE), and Clinton Durham (Dover, DE) — along with over 1,200 other attendees — participated in the Common Ground Alliance (CGA) annual meeting in Orlando, Florida last week!
CGA is committed to saving lives and preventing damage to North American underground infrastructure by promoting effective damage-prevention practices. CGA is challenging the industry to reduce damages to underground infrastructure by 50% over the next five years.
"We attended the meeting to monitor utility locating latest technologies and best practices, network with existing and potential clients, and better understand the market to expand our utility locating services," Andy commented.

Century-Kleinfelder’s Sonia Marichic-Goudy, PE, Program Manager in our Newark, Delaware, office recently had the opportunity to take part in a roundtable discussion about engineering at Padua Academy in Wilmington during Engineers Week! The panel, made up of school alumnae, discussed civil engineering, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, and mechanical engineering with an audience of 66 students. Among other activities, the students also competed in a tower-building activity, a scavenger hunt, and an engineering quiz. Thank you, Sonia, for helping to encourage the next generation of engineers!
Sonia commented, “It’s always great to be able to encourage the next generation of engineers. This event was extra special to have all girls in the audience. I look forward to the amazing things they will accomplish!”
