Mount de Sales Academy Grandstand and Field Additions

Mount de Sales Academy Grandstand and Field Additions

Century Engineering assisted the Mount de Sales Academy, a Catholic girls’ high school in Baltimore County, MD, with the conversion of their existing turf field and natural hillside seating area into a synthetic field and grandstand. Our team provided civil, structural, electrical, and geotechnical engineering services for the project.

Working with Baltimore County

The initial scope required a waiver request from Baltimore County for stormwater management review and installation. Once granted, design drawings were prepared for the 155’ by 330’ field and 200seat bleacher area.

Coordinating Designs

Setbacks from existing utilities, buildings, and vegetation were reviewed resulting in a coordinated design of grading and retaining walls. Century’s planners designed the welcome plaza, walks, and grading of the site. Coordination with the architect and field designer was required. The geotechnical study was used for the retaining wall design and field section. The structural designers were responsible for the support walls of the plaza and bleachers while the electrical team was responsible for the lighting design of the plaza and connections for a future audio system.

Time Crunch

Century was challenged with obtaining county permits prior to the last day of school so the contractor could begin work during the school’s summer break. Century was able to meet with county review agencies and obtain the permits two weeks early, and thus helped to ensure that work moved forward as scheduled during the summer months.
