Streamlined for Success
A vital element in positioning a project to be delivered on schedule and within scope and budget lies in the ability of the consultant to effectively communicate with the client and general contractor. Utilizing available technology to streamline communication with the project team, Century managed and tracked all aspects of the construction. The project was originally slated to be completed over a three-year period at an estimated construction cost of approximately $5.2 million, but under Century’s leadership, the construction was completed in just over one year at an actual construction cost of just under $4 million.
Continued Support
Century has also supported this contract through various tasks related to the inventory and assessment of statewide traffic signal assets and network modeling support. These GIS-based products help DelDOT to better manage and maintain their vast traffic-related infrastructure, improve construction monitoring practices, and support annual project planning and budget allocations. By understanding the placement and condition of every asset, DelDOT can make more informed decisions to ensure that they continue to maintain the safe passage of Delaware citizens and its visitors.
Database, Field Inventory, and Application Development
Our team worked closely with DelDOT stakeholders to review existing inventory practices to identify the proper methodology for migrating the asset database into an enterprise GIS database that contains asset information related to signal cabinets, signal mast and strain poles, traffic signal heads, and pedestrian pushbutton and signals. Using open data standards (OGC) and API access, Century provided DelDOT with a direct link to the data feed, even from the field, and next steps include conversion of DelDOT’s TrafficPM construction monitoring database to an enterprise database and web-based application, allowing project managers to review project progress from anywhere, at any time.
