Augsburg has been providing senior care since the 1800s. When developing Augsburg Village, a new large, independent living facility, they turned to Century to get the job done. Our team provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design for the project in Lochearn, MD.
Now complete, the facility that many happy residents call home consists of three stories and 48,000 square feet with a total of 35 apartments. Each apartment includes a kitchen, living room, bedroom, and bathroom. Each kitchen has a range, dishwasher, and disposal. In addition to apartments, the building includes a dining room, kitchen, multipurpose room, store, beauty shop, exercise room, rehabilitation area, and building support services, making it an ideal home for Augsburg residents.
The corridors are served by split system heat pumps while the common areas are served by high efficiency gas fired DX-split system units. Electric comfort heat is included at the exits and stairwells. Unit heaters were also provided in some of the utility rooms and storage rooms. A high efficiency gas fired domestic hot water heater with storage tank was installed for the common areas and apartment units and booster heaters are available for kitchen use. Exhaust fans were provided for the toilet areas, trash rooms, and kitchen hoods.
The building is served by a 120/208V, 2000A service. This consists of an 800 A main distribution panel for house services and a 1200A electrical distribution panel for apartment unit panels. High efficiency gas fired DX-split system units also serve the apartments with condensing units on grade. Lighting for the corridors in the facility used recessed energy efficient compact fluorescent fixtures in a grid ceiling while common areas also used both compact fluorescent fixtures and 1’x4’ fluorescent energy efficient fixtures.
