The Pavement Management Program is comprised of several roadway maintenance applications including:
Pavement and Rehabilitation Program
This program includes both milling and overlay contracts and rehabilitation contracts, including: excavation and embankment; placement of GABC; placement of base and surface hot-mix asphalt; installation of PCC curb; gutters and sidewalks; application of pavement markings; and ADA warning devices.
Slurry Seal Program
Slurry seal is a low-cost, thin asphaltic surface treatment that rejuvenates the hot mix surface and seals the pavement. The resulting finish hides years of patching repairs and extends the life of the pavement.
Cape Seal Program
Slurry seal is applied over tar-and-chip pavement to give new life to roads in very poor condition.
Micro-surfacing Program
While similar to slurry seal in purpose and appearance, micro-surfacing is designed for higher volume roads including highways and airfields. It fills ruts and resists shoving in summer and cracking in winter.
Crack Sealing Program
Crack sealing is performed on roads in very good condition to reduce water penetration, help maintain pavement structural capacity and limit pavement degradation, saving the County from costly future repairs.
PCC Patching
Patching is used to fix isolated pavement failures, sunken utility trenches and potholes. It is also used to make repairs in advance of slurry seal application.
Masonry Program
This service-driven, $1 million annual program encompasses not only repairs for damaged sidewalks, curbs and gutters and driveway aprons, but also the installation of handicapped ramps and ADA warning devices. The entire process is managed through a computer-based tracking program that enables each district to log and refer citizen requests to the program, then track progress of the repairs.
Guardrail Program
Guardrails damaged due to accidents are repaired and new guardrails are installed as requested by the County’s Traffic Section. Repairs are tracked so that the Risk Management Section can recover the costs from the vehicle’s insurance company.
