Transit Needs Assessment of BRAC, TOD and Smart Growth

Transit Needs Assessment of BRAC, TOD and Smart Growth

By assessing needs and improving the statewide transit and public transportation network, Century assisted the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) in moving current Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) projects and opportunities towards implementation.

Considering Opportunities

Transit-Oriented Development sites are designed to encourage multimodal access to public transit stations, and choosing the perfect locations for them requires intensive investigation and coordination. Century assisted the MTA in reviewing developer site plans from private and public entities, analyzing zoning and land use options and coordinating approval with Baltimore City and Baltimore County on behalf of the TOD Smart Growth Team.

Development Details

Individual stations along the Metro Rail corridor included Reisterstown Plaza Metro Station, Savage MARC Station and Owings Mills Metro Station. Century supported the MTA in analyzing multimodal connectivity, transportation demand, parking, ADA compliance, safety, and potential environmental impact ahead of plan implementation.

Base Realignment and Consolidation (BRAC)

BRAC decisions brought tens of thousands of new jobs to the state. As Maryland grows and adapts to the needs of its residents and commuters, it is necessary for the statewide transit and public transportation network to adjust accordingly. Century continues to provide direct consultant support to MTA’s BRAC TOD Coordinator, working with the Department of Defense to define the impact of the influx of new travelers and opportunities for optimization.
