A New Ballroom
The most dramatic change to the residency was the creation of a 7,000 square foot ballroom for indoor entertainment and assembly. Interior renovations were made to the existing structure to accommodate the new ballroom, improving internal circulation for gathered guests. A new “link space” joins the addition to the existing residence, creating a needed reception foyer and expanding both the kitchen and serving areas. The new ballroom is served by a 20-ton rooftop unit with energy recovery ventilation, discreetly hidden on the flat roof section by a custom-built screen-wall which was also designed to reduce the noise levels to adjacent properties. Through thoughtful design, Century provided future ambassadors a dignified space for hosting.
Cooking for a Crowd
The renovation of the traditional kitchen into a commercial kitchen capable of serving large crowds necessitated several infrastructure improvements. The commercial kitchen called for an increase of electricity, which contributed to the decision to overhaul the electrical system. Further, to accommodate for the volume of cooking, the building’s gas-fired water heaters were replaced with high-efficiency water heaters.
Structural, Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC
The roof of the addition was broken into two areas, a flat roof section and a hipped gable. The flat roof was constructed using engineered-wood joists bearing walls. The electrical system was fully updated, and the plumbing and HVAC systems were replaced in their entirety.
Exterior
The exterior improvements included a main lawn area for tent events, an exterior stage, landscaping, a private garden area for the Ambassador’s family, a play area, and brick walks that lead to the lawn and garden area.
