New Castle County Conservation District retained Century Engineering, A Kleinfelder Company (Century) to complete a flood study within the Meadowdale community in Hockessin, DE due to historic stormwater flooding. Century completed the development of a stormwater model for the Meadowdale drainage area based on site visits, historic plans, LiDAR information, detailed storm drain information, and additional information provided by the community at the first community meeting. The point of analysis is located just downstream of the Paper Mill Road culvert.
Century evaluated multiple options for remediation, including both those suggested by the community and other engineering solutions. Each alternative was evaluated on the basis of effectiveness and cost.
The model was run for four different storm events: the 2-year; the 10-year; the 100-year; and for Hurricane Isaias and the subsequent storm in August 2020. Each display shows the extent of flooding within the community and representative photos for the identified storm event.
