A System Surprise
Both systems were buried under the ground of the active VA facility, and the work was initially going to be accomplished through open trench excavation. Taking into consideration how disruptive this method would be to the facility’s operations, Century recommended a thorough cleaning followed by a video inspection assessment before committing to a full excavation.
Surprisingly, the inspection revealed that most of the system was in good condition and could be rehabilitated with a thorough cleaning. A further portion could be rehabilitated with the use of a cured-in-place liner, leaving only a scant 80 linear feet requiring open trench replacement.
Ultimately, the expert recommendation of an innovative, state-of-the-art, trenchless rehabilitation solution for most of the system resulted in little disruption to daily operations at the VA facility and cut several hundred thousand dollars in construction costs by using a less invasive and resource intensive method.
Comprehensive Services
Century developed the plans and specifications for the various forms of rehabilitation and replacement. Our team also addressed and secured approvals of stormwater management and erosion and sediment control from Delaware DNREC. Finally, our surveyors completed a detailed survey of the sewer structures and their inverts.
