Odd Fellows Road Interchange Phase I

Odd Fellows Road Interchange Phase I

NXL, a Kleinfelder Company provided quality control (QC) services to the design-build prime contractor during Phase I of this interchange project. This design-build project included the design and construction of the new interchange at Route 29/460 Bypass and Odd Fellows Road, granting greater access to a blossoming area of Lynchburg, VA with a busy and growing industrial park.

Compliance and Responsibilities

The QC manager and staff were tasked with testing and inspecting compliance with relevant VDOT requirements, coordinating daily efforts with contractors, and maintaining communications with the design-build team. QC inspection responsibilities included the oversight and inspection of building demolition, grading, and sediment basin installation as well as water, sewer, and storm line installation.

Importance of Quality Control

Our team monitored the construction of embankment fills and performed density testing on embankments and pipe installations. In addition, we performed all concrete testing throughout the project; checked grades on pipe, structures, and all bridge phases; and inspected reinforced steel, formwork on the new bridge, guardrails, power poles, and power lines. A design-build project of this size necessitates proper quality control, and our team was present throughout every pertinent project phase.
