Loading Dock
For a layout of the expansion of the existing loading dock, Century provided civil, survey, design, and construction phase services. Careful designing was required to avoid disturbing the existing gas and water lines while lowering the existing grade. Century also designed a concrete encasement that would allow for the reduction of cover over utility lines without their removal and relocation.
Emergency Room 7 Expansion
Century provided civil and structural engineering design services for the design of the Emergency Room 7 (ER 7) expansion at Northwest Hospital. The expansion included the demolition and reconstruction of 2,000 square feet of existing building space to allow the addition of three new ambulance bays. A new 30-foot-long cantilevered canopy structure matching the existing canopy was provided over the new ambulance entrances. Since the new construction was placed within the footprint of the demolished space, extensive coordination and detailing was required to fit the new framing within the surrounding existing roof systems. Civil services included the preparation of Country Review Group (CRG) documents, topographic survey, and preparation of stormwater management documents. Our team conducted four soil test borings and laboratory tests to identify the soil’s physical characteristics. Structural services included the analysis and design of the framed concrete roof slab, supporting concrete elements, slab on grade, and foundations.
