Design-Build Design Services including Roadway and Drainage Design, Public Involvement and Construction Phase Services |
Maryland State Highway Administration employed the use of Design-Build as an alternative delivery method to expedite the opening of this first section of Relocated US 113 in Worcester County. The project included the design and construction of this 2.5 mile facility and interchange within 18 months from bid opening. This feat was accomplished not only through the innovative application of new and existing techniques; but the successful interaction between the Design Build team, the SHA and stakeholders. As Designer, Century Engineering contributed complete engineering services for roadway, hydrology/hydraulics, traffic analysis and design, traffic control, structures, environmental permitting and construction phase services for review and approve shop drawings, preparation of CPM schedules, and construction stakeout services.
- Preparing geotechnical investigation and pavement design including an innovated use of a fly ash-amended product for the road base.
- Designing an elaborate stormwater management system that included ponds, shallow marshes, and wetland plantings, incorporating the context sensitive design features.
- Coordinating extensive stakeholder interaction which led to creative and innovative solutions, resulting in a completed project open to traffic almost one month ahead of schedule and at no additional cost to the MSHA.
