This project featured the design of a replacement bridge for a structurally deficient three-span historic girder bridge over the CSX Railroad in Sudbrook Park, MD. Sudbrook Park was designed in 1889 by Frederick Law Olmstead, Sr. Olmstead is recognized as the founder of landscape architecture in America as well as co-designer of New York City's Central Park.
-
Providing historical preservation of the bridge's architecture in addition to continuing Olmstead's vision for Sudbrook Park.
- Preserving exterior girders to maintain the historic appeal of the bridge, and the entire 100-foot long, three-span steel beam roadway bridge was redesigned structurally as a more functional, redundant multi-beam structure contained within and independent of the existing girder and floor beam bridge superstructure. The roadway bridge is supported independently on the piers and abutments.
- Maintaining vertical clearance to the CSX throughout construction to allow uninterrupted CSX service.
