Ritchie Highway Tie Line
Owner: Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works
Location: Pasadena, MD
Expertise Provided: Civil, Sanitary Engineering

The project included a schematic design and study report for approximately 6,000 linear feet of 16-inch D.I.P. water main.  Schematic designs were developed for eight alternative alignments between Governor Ritchie Highway (MD 2) and Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard (MD 648).  The proposed 16-inch main is intended to interconnect an existing 16-inch water main in front of Marley Station Mall, on the West side of Ritchie Highway (MD 2) to the existing 16-inch water main located at the intersection of Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard (MD 648) and Mountain Road (MD 177), on the East side of Ritchie Highway.  The alignment traversed within, and adjacent to fully developed shopping center, commercial properties, and major State highways along its route.

Challenges Encountered:
  • Coordinating with the MSHA District 5 office.
  • Avoid major high voltage underground and overhead electrical supply lines adjacent to the proposed pipe alignments.
  • Large underground gas main and other water a sewer mains had to be traversed.
  • All road crossings were designed to be jack and bore method to avoid open cutting MSHA roadways.
  • Many commercial properties along the pipe alignment.
