This design project included the installation of fiberoptic cable along US 13 through the town of Smyrna in coordination with DelDOT’s Integrated Transportation Management System. Design included utility agreements for aerial attachments, right-of-way investigation, signal system connections and design plans for three CCTV cameras mounted on 75-foot steel poles with lowering devices. Final plans were developed with accompanying specifications and cost estimate. Construction phase services were provided during the bidding and construction process including; attendance at Pre-Bid and Post-Award meetings, shop drawing review, inspection and contract administration services under the direction of DelDOT.

Coordination with the utility owner was essential in the success of this project. Attachment agreements were required for each utility pole ensuring the proper clearance was met per NEC regulations.
- Project design schedule was aggressive in order to have communications in place prior to the start of the summer tourist season.
A ten week design period was identified, including DOT review time, in order to provide the contractor sufficient time to install the necessary equipment. The project was advertised on time and the contractor completed all work within the allotted schedule.
