Construction of a new, 560-foot long, steel-framed, pile-supported pier designed to accommodate vessels ranging in size from small river barges to 60,000-ton, 700-foot long, ocean-going super-tankers. The new facility was built to replace an abandoned 860-foot timber pier constructed in the 1920s. The new pier is equipped with 2 mooring dolphins and 4 breasting dolphins, all of which are massive reinforced concrete structures supported on steel piles. A 30-foot by 90-foot concrete and steel-framed unloading platform with a 15-ton hydraulic crane was installed at the mid-length of the pier. This platform handles and stored large flexible hoses used to convey petroleum products from the barges and ships into the adjacent tank farm.
