This new, one-story, 18,000 square foot Learning Resource Center provides library and administrative space to serve the students and faculty of Garrett College. This new building is an addition to the Student Union Center and provides a technologically advanced learning environment. Architectural features includes a large column-free high-ceilinged reading room and stack areas. An expressive curved wood-framed roof compliments the south end of the building. Large windows in the reading room combined with the site location provide a panoramic view of Deep Creek Lake.

• Designing a curved wood-framed roof system using pre-engineered wood truss rafters and limited amounts of structural steel.
• Adhering to a limited construction budget and schedule.
• Using local construction trades and available materials.
• Developing a structural design compatible with the architectural requirements of high ceilings, column-free spaces and large expanses of glass.
