This project involved the design of a new roof structure and the restoration of the historic B&O Roundhouse after its roof collapsed from the President's Day snowstorm in 2003. This 240-foot diameter, 22-sided, brick, wrought iron and wood structure was built in 1884. Designed by famed Architect, E.F. Baldwin, this unique structure is located on the site of America's first railroad depot and is considered to be "The Birthplace of American Railroading".
- Stabilizing the remaining structure to prevent further collapse and to protect the artifacts from additional damage.
- Restoring the roundhouse to useable condition and in accordance with current codes and modern standards of engineering design while preserving its historic significance.
- Replicating the original design without the benefit of existing drawings.
- Protecting the artifacts which could not be moved throughout the cleanup and new construction.
