Marine Corps Reserve Center Renovation
Owner: NAVFAC Public Works Dept.
Location: Parkville, MD
Expertise Provided: Civil, Geotechnical, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing

Century provided Civil, Geotechnical, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing engineering services for this LEED® Gold Certified multi-discipline design-build engineering effort.  The existing 40,000 SF Administration Building and 10,000 SF Vehicle Maintenance Building were gutted to structure and provided with completely new mechanical and electrical systems. The existing chiller and boiler system was left intact but new systems were provided in coordination with them.  New roof top units were provided with energy recovery.

Sustainable Design Features:
  • HVAC: dedicated outdoor air system with airflow monitoring to ensure required flow, better than minimal wall and window insulation, fan coil units to minimize air movement, individual occupant control of space temperature, no use of CFC based refrigerants.
  • Plumbing: high efficiency waterclosets and urinals, low flow shower heads and lavatories, resulting in 40% water use reduction.
  • Lighting: automatic lighting shut off, individual controls for lighting to ensure flexibility.
  • Assisted the Owner in purchasing green power from a 3rd party utility vendor.
  • Reuse of existing roof joists and regionally produced materials and certified wood.
  • Stormwater Management on-site
