Owner: M.S. Hershey Foundation
Location: Hershey, PA
Expertise Provided: Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing

Century is providing all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services for a new 45,000 square foot museum in downtown Hershey to be known as The Hershey Story – The Museum on Chocolate Avenue. This new building is being designed to house both permanent and temporary exhibits and ancillary operations.  The lower level will have instruction/meeting spaces, administrative offices, mechanical and electrical rooms, collection storage, and a repair shop.  The first floor contains a museum shop, café, and a chocolate lab.  Participants are invited to participate in a “hands on” experience with the process of chocolate making.  The second floor will contain exhibits encompassing the story of Milton S. Hershey, his company, and the region.

Challenges Encountered:
  • Providing very stringent environmental/ temperature/ humidity control.
  • Integrating the new Variable Air Volume HVAC system and hot water reheat systems with the museum displays.
  • Coordinating and integrating various lighting systems and associated dimming controls into the existing museum systems.
  • Coordinating old and new communication systems consisting of fiber optic, cable, telephone, and Category-6 high speed, data/communications pathways.
